It’s been many years in the planning, but we’re delighted to have moved into the Old Fire Station on Gipton Approach.
Built in 1937, until its closure in Autumn 2015, Gipton was one of the oldest working Fire Stations in the country. It has been replaced by a new Station at Killingbeck.
Through the great work of Leeds Community Foundation, supported by the family of the late Jimi Heselden, The Old Fire Station has been renovated into a fantastic multipurpose community hub. It provides a base for six local charities, along with rooms available to hire, a cookery school and a café for all of the community to enjoy! It’s a lasting legacy from Jimi to East Leeds: find out more here
GIPSIL’s Senior Management, Finance and HR teams are now based at the Old Fire Station, and there are hot-desking facilities for staff from our Housing Support and Schools teams: we’re getting ready to provide Opportunity Shops and other services here. Working in partnership with Leeds Community Foundation’s new company, GFS Community Enterprise, GIPSIL will also employ the Fire Station’s Reception, Bookings and Caretaking team.
Our social enterprise, Elevate will provide Facilities Management for the premises: Danny Dickinson of Elevate knows the buildings inside out, having acted as Clerk of Works throughout the renovation, which was delivered to an excellent standard by SIMPSON (York) Limited
Both GIPSIL and Elevate’s Registered Offices are now at The Old Fire Station, Gipton Approach, Gipton, Leeds, LS9 6NL
